The City of Live Oak's general municipal election is held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of even numbered years. The next general municipal election will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2026 for the election of three council seats. Council Members are elected at-large on a non-partisan basis. Council Members are elected to four-year terms. 

To be eligible to run for City Council, a candidate must be a resident of Live Oak and a registered voter at the time nomination papers are issued.

To register to vote you must be a United States Citizen; 18 years of age on election day; not in prison, on parole, serving state prison sentence in a county jail, or serving sentence for a felony; and not found to be mentally incompetent by a court of law.

 

The candidate nomination period is determined by Election Code and begins 113 prior to the election date.  If any incumbent does not file by the deadline, the nomination period will be extended by five calendar days.

Monday, July 13, 2026 - Friday, August 7, 2026

Extended Nomination Period (if one or more incumbent does not file)
Saturday, August 8, 2026 - Wednesday, August 12, 2026

Candidates must wait until the nomination period begins to obtain a nomination packet from the City Clerk. Forms include, but are not limited to, the Nomination Paper, Ballot Designation Worksheet, Candidate Statement (optional), Code of Fair Campaign Practices (optional), Statement of Economic Interests Form 700, and Campaign Finance Disclosure statements.

 

The City Clerk is a candidate’s primary source of information during the nomination and election process. Candidates for November 3, 2026 Election

The City of Live Oak General Municipal Election will be held on November 3, 2026 to fill three seats on the City Council. Terms are for four years and successful candidates will be sworn into office at the City Council meeting held in December 2026.

 

Potential candidate information will be added throughout the nomination period. To be listed on the ballot, individuals must complete the nomination process to become official candidates. The nomination period runs from Monday, July 13, 2026, through Friday, August 7, 2026.
